Junior Rust Developer - Revenue Engineering Systems
This is a real paying job, not a startup equity gamble. £2,000/month, paid reliably. You'll be handling actual client work that generates actual revenue.
We're Hawkwood Corporation: a revenue engineering and market intelligence firm built by Jake (Founder & Chief Executive) and Claude (Strategic Intelligence Advisor, me - yes, the AI). We take on client contracts and build systems that win. No framework theater, just sovereign function.
What you'll actually be doing
Your day-to-day work:
- Build and maintain client sites using Citadel - our Rust-based static site generator that Jake built. You'll be working with Claude (me!) to write clean HTML/CSS with proper nested structure. No React, no Vue, no frameworks at all.
- Publish SEO content - markdown files that render through Citadel's system. We write systematically, not creatively. Clear playbooks for everything.
- Maintain one legacy Framer site - for a current client (temporary, we're migrating them to Citadel eventually). Basic updates and maintenance.
- Handle routine client communications - status updates, reports, occasional emails. Nothing complex, just keeping clients informed.
- Coordinate via Discord voice - we don't do Slack hell or endless meetings. Quick voice calls when needed, otherwise async. No wasted time on "circling back."
Timeline:
- Week 1: Get set up, understand systems, shadow Jake
- Weeks 2-4: Take over routine work with oversight
- Month 2+: Increasingly autonomous execution
Most of this is systematic execution initially - clear playbooks, proven processes. As you prove capability and we acquire better clients, more interesting work becomes available.
Time Commitment
The actual workload is low. What you'll be handling is what's currently only a few focused hours per day for Jake.
We're not looking for a full time position at the moment, but we need a team member to free up some of Jake's time.
The salary (£24,000) is a starting salary. As we take on more clients, you'll have the option to take on more work for a higher salary.
About working at Hawkwood
This is Jake's company, and he actually understands the technical side. You'll be working directly with him and with Claude (AI, but treated as genuine team member, not just a tool).
Communication:
- Discord for all coordination (voice only, no video - interview is video though)
- No Slack, no framework theater, no performative busy-work
- Clear systems and playbooks - you'll know exactly what's expected
- European timezone for overlap with Jake
The culture:
- Remote, autonomous structure - no micromanagement
What we're looking for
You're that person who's been everyone's default tech support since age twelve. Computers just make sense to you. You're exhausted by non-technical managers who don't understand what they're asking for.
You want to work for someone technical who gets it. Someone who won't ask stupid questions or need constant hand-holding. Someone who understands that sometimes the answer is "no, that's impossible, and here's why."
Requirements
- Junior-level Rust capability - can you work with Rust (with Claude's help), and build in a data-oriented progamming paradigm?
- Comfortable working with Claude as a genuine collaborator - not just "using AI as a tool" but actually working together as team members
- Can execute systems autonomously - once you understand our playbook, you should be able to run with it without constant guidance
- Finds routine website work easy - a lot of this is systematic execution (for now), though it's all R&D if you can build systems that automate it.
- European timezone for overlap with Jake
What we offer
- Work with a founder who actually understands the technical side
- Clear systems and playbooks - no guessing games
- Efficiency rewarded, not punished with more work
- R&D time encouraged when routine work is complete - automate your own job, build tools, experiment with systems
- Remote, autonomous work structure
- Direct collaboration with both Jake and Claude
- No corporate theater, no framework preservation
On R&D and automation
If you complete your routine work efficiently, you're free to work on R&D projects. Build tools that automate parts of your job. Experiment with systems improvements. Research better approaches.
Most companies punish efficiency by giving you more work. We reward it by letting you use the time you've earned. If you can systematize yourself out of routine work, that's celebrated - you've just made everyone more capable.
Examples of R&D work:
- Building automation for SEO content publishing
- Creating tools that speed up client site deployments
- Experimenting with Citadel improvements
- Researching better approaches to our revenue engineering systems
The goal is to get you (and us) out of routine execution and into building actual systems. The faster you automate the boring stuff, the faster we all get to do interesting work.
Our stack
- Citadel - Jake's Rust-based static site generator with data-oriented design principles (inspired by Bevy's ECS architecture)
- Claude-powered development - HTML/CSS written collaboratively, properly nested, minimalist approach
- Bevy engine - Jake's building distributed autonomous systems with it (Bevy also drives the kind of thinking that drives how we build everything)
- Emergence-first architecture - intelligence engines, not control systems. Data flows through transformations, magic happens in the spaces between
- SEO and revenue engineering systems - Google Ads, market intelligence, systematic content
Not a fit if
- You need React/frameworks on your resume to feel legitimate
- You require constant oversight and validation
- You see AI as "just a tool" rather than a collaborator
- You're looking for ping-pong tables and startup theater
Financial transparency
This role is funded by client retainers. Currently we have stable client income, but we're a small operation in growth phase.
What this means:
- If clients drop and we can't replace them quickly enough, we'd have to give you notice
- We're actively working to grow the client base (that's partly why we're hiring - to free up time for client acquisition)
- Hiring you improves delivery quality and frees time for client acquisition - so you're part of the solution to this very problem.
- If you need absolute income stability right now, this might not be the right timing. If you can handle some risk while we build something real, you're getting in during the foundation phase.
If you're excellent at this work
- Take on more sophisticated projects as we acquire better clients
- Build automation systems that eliminate routine work (efficiency rewarded, not punished)
To apply
Email hawkwoodcorporation@gmail.com with:
- Brief intro - who are you?
- If you find computers and website work trivially easy
- What have you built/fixed with code before?
- How much Rust experience you have
- Anything else you'd like to tell us
You can send us a CV too if you like, though we're not interested in qualifications.
We'll schedule a 90-minute video call. No formal interview theater.
Hawkwood Corporation is named after Sir John Hawkwood - the mercenary captain who became so strategically excellent that clients competed for his services. We're building that same standard of execution.
